wow… great technique, but more importantly: great music! you seem to play notes that are impossible to me, like a low F on a D harp… do you draw or blow to play that????

I’m just curious do you use beeswax or other like nail polish on the rivets of the harp you customize yourself. I don’t know if it really has a big impact on harmonica. I will probably try it …

Jason, first of all, YOU DA MAN!
OK, enough ass kissing! Why do you use the posts for support? I like to ‘hem’ the covers which really strengthens the cover plates. Hemming is simple, just cut the flaps and bend them back flat. You recently signed and tested one of my harps from David Payne. His custom Elk harps are what I’ve been filling my bag with. What do you think of them? -

Jason,
Excellent video. I’m starting to bend my OBs now, especially using 6 OB bent – and custom harps DO make it easier. Does the eyebrow movement help on your bent OBs? LOL! Keep on keepin’ on, bro!

What I dont understand is how hes so good yet hes so unknown it seems like. His skill to me anyway, is as comparable to the fame of dave matthews himself. Great skills and so fun to listen to!

Subs, I’m not shocked at all. Historically the mainstream culture very rarely acknowledges artists doing innovative things. People would rather listen to the American Idol winner or any other McMusic on the radio rather than somebody pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. I’m not sure, but I would think Jason receives a better reception in Europe than he does in the the states. They value culture/art much more than Americans. And therefore have much more eclectic tastes.

they way you move your right thumb when you play sometimes it looks(and sounds) like your playing a chromatic.

I am a harp geek and a reed nerd, I know it. I am also a kid at heart. The bent overblows sound awesome the way you use them. This is a great video showing low harp OB’s. I am awaiting a Low D tuned Turbo Harp BX and am looking forward to trying some OB’s on her. Thanks for sharing your special MOJO sweetharps. Your Stratovarius has it’s MOJO working for sure!

Haha, McMusic. My music prof started the semester off by ripping pop music apart. Compared it to McDonalds food. Said “It all tastes the same, and it makes your musical soul fat, gross, lazy and nasty, kinda like a big mac.”

hi, im using a lee oscar key of G and im having a problem with my 4&5 overblow that when i try to sustain them the harp makes a really high pitched ringing sound, is this due to reed placement or technique?
-
jasonricci December 23rd, 2008 at 12:51
Hi Skunk. IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT! You are doing the right thing. Lee Oskar Reeds are wider and shorter than Hohner reeds and that causes that hissing sound. Try it on a Hohner and you’ll get it right away probably.
