What the posters are forgetting to tell you that a harmonica in G plays in G major.
But if someone is playing in Aminor, the G-Major is dorian mode and will still fit perfectly with no sour notes even though you have just the G harmonica. Not finish…… if you play in e minor….guess what ? every notes of your G harmonica will play perfectly well even if the song has A minor chords in it.
Interesting ???
)Even if you have a song in the key of C major, you can still play all the notes except the F#… No big deal.
You can also play in D major even if you don’t have the C# in a G harmonica. Again, the C is the 7th note of the scale of D. Bingo….

The reeds in the harmonica are tuned to produce a G major scale. You get 2 different notes out of each hole — one note when you blow through the hole and a second note when you draw or suck air through it.
Harmonicas are available in many different keys but they all work the same way.

The same as a harmonica in any other key. a harmonica in G will only play the notes in the major scale, which in this case is G,A,B,C,D,E,F# and , the G an octave above the root
