Gibson ES339 Fat Neck
Gibson ES339 cgi.ebay.com In 1958, Gibson debuted a guitar that provided the perfect combination of solidbody and hollowbody features—the ES-335. With a solid maple block running down the center of its thin, hollow body, the ES-335 provides the fat, resonant tone of a hollowbody guitar while delivering the sustain and feedback resistance of a solidbody. Gibsons hybrid design, known as a semi-hollow guitar, remains a perennial favorite of players of nearly every style of music from jazz and …
Kevin,
Great review! I was planning on getting a ES-335, but I think this will have to take its place. Not to steal your thunder, but I believe this model has nickel hardware, not chrome, as you state.
Blues Rocker
the ES-339 is more bang for your buck for sure
can semi holow guitars plays acoustc?
Yes
oh so i have questionn.. what U think is better? a solid electric guitar or semi hollow electric guitar?
that is my dream guitar. I’ll have to settle with an epi dot for now
Hey Kevin… what a beauty… that´s my next guitar!
This is my favourite demo video for the ES-339 so far.. and what a piece of equipment you got there! All those Rivera and Vox amps, and the guitars in the back… man hope I can visit your store in a near future.
Hey Kevin, nice guitar, it’s one of those ’someday when I can afford it’ guitars. No wonder Vinnie’s such a good guitarist with you being able to play that well, it had to rub off. Cheers!
they have an acoustic quality because its semi hollow but wouldnt be loud enough to play ‘acoustic’ per say. they are what youd call a ‘jazz box’ which are fully hollow archtop styles.
neither is BETTER, just different. youd have different uses for them depending on what musical style youre going after.
Gibson2471, Epi dots are pretty much the same thing. Although the Gibson may sound better to some, the difference really isnt worth the extra $1000.00.
Nowadays the les paul is pretty much a semi-hollow body. At the rate there going might as well get this and be happy. : /
actually it’s a custom shop model, it is worth it
Well if it’s got custom shop printed on it must be worth $1000 more
theyve gon back to solid mahogony
Well, yes. Custom shop tends to mean higher quality…
I spent about 4 hours playing one of these the other day at a guitar shop. No guitar has ever gotten that kind of attention from me. Considering it’s Custom Shop, high quality, PLEK’d, and is an awesome new design, I’m surprised they’re not asking more for these…
can this guitar get good distortion or do you need to crank the gain section of your amp up or get different pick ups cuz this guitar’s look is really appealing to me and its cheaper than a les paul im looking for a cross between brad whitford/joe perry/jimmy page/ted nugents sound like combined into one incredible sounding thing… lol
most les pauls are cheaper than this actually.
epi dots suck. worst guitar i have ever played.
i have a les paul its a uhh classic gold top with a 60’s neck it was 2.6k
They have definitely NOT gone back to solid mahogany. The Standards are chambered, the Traditionals are weight relieved, and the Historics are solid.
So yes, nowadays many Les Pauls are essentially semi-hollow.
no, only 5 are, studios, traditional pro, and standard 50’s neck. mostly all are over 2200
I wouldn’t mind one. I’m a small guy.
Erm your an epiphone dots aren’t shite your just an idioit and a snob.
