No. Gibsons & Epiphones come with stock Gibson strings. You can buy Ernie Ball strings at Guitar Center or your local music shop, and they retail for about 5 dollars.

Also, make sure you get the correct size strings. Slash plays Ernie Ball 11-46 strings, but standard string size is 9-42, so you will need to have your guitar set-up for a larger string size, should you choose to play larger strings.

If you have further questions, feel free to PM me.

Basically, Epiphone guitars are the Gibson rejects, as far as my knowledge goes. The Epiphones made in China are of a much lower quality, because less care (if you will) goes into the manufacturing and perfecting of the instrument.

Number one, is your guitar set up for 10s? If not, you definitely want to take it to a luthier or you could cause damage to the neck (later on down the road). Take it to the luthier, and have him set it up for your string size. If it’s already set up for 10s, and you’re looking to go to larger strings, you will want to take it to the luthier to get set up for whichever size you choose.

    (continued)
I strongly recommend taking it in to a luthier to get your action set up for your strings because it will help to prevent neck damage. Also, once you get your guitar properly set up, you will notice a fairly large increase in how long your notes sustain, as well as how much more smoothly your guitar will play.

    (continued again)
Even though, when you get the guitar (assuming you buy it new), it will not be set up as well as it could be. It is worth the price you will pay the luthier to set up your action. I recommend taking your guitar in to a luthier atleast once a year, for a check up on the action, as well as the electronics in your guitar.

    Sorry for the long posts.

How much are you looking to spend?

If you’re looking to buy a new guitar, and are somewhat familiar with what to look for, what your playing styles are, what you would like to play, and things of that nature, I would thoroughly recommend broadening your horizons (so to say), and look at other options, aside from Epiphone.

well ya i agree i dont only like epiphone but its not a gibson les paul but its close

  16. MSUGreenGiant63 on June 18th, 2009 at 11:19 pm

Have you played a Gibson Les Paul? Epiphones are nothing close to how a real GIbson plays. Gibsons play so much faster, easier, and the tones you can get out of them are ridiculous. It’s like sex, only better. To be perfectly honest, though, I really do like Gibsons, but in the past few years, their quality has been going downhill.

  17. the epiphone elitists are very great guitars. i like them better than a lot of gibsons. they are a lot more cash than most epiphones, but well worth it.

7:55 burp!. Lol Slash is amazing

  19. I’ve got a epiphone les paul custom and it plays better than a lot of gibsons that ive tried. Gibsons are awesome, dont get me wrong i love a good gibson. But if your not willing to pay an arm and a leg, Epiphones ( and yes, there are some VERY good quality ones being made.) are not at all a step down from a gibson, just a cheaper alternative.

  20. Lol Dont You Mean Cheaper your not a bird

  21. If i was slash i would kick the shit out of that guitar centre guy his laugh is so fucking annoying.

  22. i use 11 gauge and the stock strings were 10’s. the 11’s don’t change the intonation or anything and my guitar’s fine

  23. epiphones rock
