ALVINO REY: ST. LOUIS BLUES (TALKING STEEL GUITAR PUPPET!)
visualguidanceltd.blogspot.com Alvino Rey’s ‘Talking Steel Guitar’ could actually talk, giving Rey’s orchestra its distinctive sound (some of Rey’s critics called it a ‘gimmick’). Rey played with virtuosic skill, demonstrating his guitar’s ’singing’ quality by manipulating the tone and volume controls. ‘Stringy’ (the guitar’s nickname) was able to sound as if ‘HE’ were saying words. Of course ‘Stringy’ wasn’t, but Luise King, Rey’s wife was. In something that describes like a sexual fetish …
awesome clip, but the doll’s voice creeped me lil haha
somehwere between a revelation and a nightmare. the playing is extraordinary, but that puppet–he’s comin ta getcha with knives in a dark alley…
awesome on many levels: the era this was played in, the technology of the “talk box”, Rey’s technique, just way ahead of his time…and the doll is definitely from a horror show “m”
For a month i watched three times a day. i couldn’t stop.
thank God for the internet, because, i became obsessed with other shit after i started seeing and hearing the puppet in my dreams.
i researched till there was no juice left in Google. I had every possible combo of puppet and Rey, till i was getting ‘Kookla, Fran & Ollie’ on French TV {true and very funny}.
This may be the only media [certainly containing a puppet] with which i’m mesmerized…uncontrollably!
nichopoulooza
I reckon it was his wife singing as the dummy
behind the curtain(ever heard of that?)
Good old fashioned nightmare fodder!
i seem to be getting strongly addicted to this, having now watched it for about five times in a row… and here goes another round!
This is awesome
` .. now THAT”S ENTERTAINMENT!”
I am getting SO addicted to watching this over and over and over and over and over and over and over again
I thought I was the only one who has watched this over and over. Why is this video so addictive? It’s almost as if it has some mystical power over the viewer.
i got some help for my binge mostly the first part was hardest. r u hearin’ it over and over in your head, intrusively yet during the day? that’s when you need to start chippyin’ off little by little…try some other stuff that’s not so strong so you kinda ween down. but if it becomes a problem [already, i’m startin to get a taste cuz it’s playin right now and he just went, ‘die dee die dee doe’ which used to be my favorite part. i gotta go before they do the high bit.

This guy was a serious business innovator.
this is the best thing i’ve ever seen. in life.
I’m not sure it’s the best thing in life….but goddamn, it’s good….
that puppet is creepy.
haha…..you’re crazy man
the talking effect you can get with the “musical saw” too.
?? um ??
that is the stupidest evil robot i ever seen’t.
I never saw a pedal steel player in a tuxedo before
Words do very little to describe this video….but I will try….innovative, entertaining, and certainly mind blowing !
Alvino…you were the balls man!
Genius: Talkbox + steel guitar.
I’ve been considering attempting this at home but I need more practice with both, and doing it simultaniously maybe a bit taxing - genius idea though, get the wife to learn the talkbox!
2:00 solo starts 2:19 baby voice 2:33 puppet and skeet’s clarinet begin accompanied by different alvino sound effects…i couldn’t keep up [if you want to add them, YT automatically makes these links just by writing the time from the video like these] 2:45 chicken 2:53 high singing contest between puppet and clarinet 3:10 whoa whoa clang clang train noise…i think it’s clang clang.
What do you say to a pedal steel player wearing a 3-piece suit?
“Will the defendant please rise?”
