ALVINO REY: ST. LOUIS BLUES (TALKING STEEL GUITAR PUPPET!)

visualguidanceltd.blogspot.com Alvino Rey’s ‘Talking Steel Guitar’ could actually talk, giving Rey’s orchestra its distinctive sound (some of Rey’s critics called it a ‘gimmick’). Rey played with virtuosic skill, demonstrating his guitar’s ’singing’ quality by manipulating the tone and volume controls. ‘Stringy’ (the guitar’s nickname) was able to sound as if ‘HE’ were saying words. awesome on many levels: the era this was played in, the technology of the “talk box”, Rey’s technique, just way ahead of his time…and the doll is definitely from a horror show “m”

  4. For a month i watched three times a day. i couldn’t stop.

thank God for the internet, because, i became obsessed with other shit after i started seeing and hearing the puppet in my dreams.

i researched till there was no juice left in Google. I had every possible combo of puppet and Rey, till i was getting ‘Kookla, Fran & Ollie’ on French TV {true and very funny}.

This may be the only media [certainly containing a puppet] with which i’m mesmerized…uncontrollably!

  22. Words do very little to describe this video….but I will try….innovative, entertaining, and certainly mind blowing !
    Alvino…you were the balls man!

  23. Genius: Talkbox + steel guitar.
I’ve been considering attempting this at home but I need more practice with both, and doing it simultaniously maybe a bit taxing - genius idea though, get the wife to learn the talkbox!

What do you say to a pedal steel player wearing a 3-piece suit?

    “Will the defendant please rise?”
