Route 66 Bobby Troup Cover w/Harmonica Jam w/Cutbait´s Playalong Backing Track
Posted on August 16th, 2010 3 commentsThis song has been covered dozens of times in all music styles. It was written and originally performed by Bobby Troup, a singer and pianist. Route 66 is a famous US road that goes from Los Angeles to Chicago. There are many interesting sights and landmarks along the way, making it a popular road trip destination. Chuck Berry recorded this song in 1961. His version got the attention of The Rolling Stones, who covered it in 1964 and made it a regular part of their stage show. Rick Busciglio of Memory Lane Presentations tells us: “At a party in Hollywood in the 1970’s I was introduced to Mrs. Bobby Troup. I was very surprised with the introduction because I knew that Bobby Troup was married to a magnificent singer (and beauty) by the name of Julie London… and this lady was clearly not Julie London. First name Cynthia. This Mrs. Bobby Troup told me this tale about when she was the first wife of Troup: They were living modestly in Lancaster, Pennsylvania at the end of World War II and Bobby Troup had decided that ‘if I’m going to make it in the music business I’ve got to go to LA.’ So they drive cross country to Los Angeles and while they motor on a long boring stretch of US Route 66, they play word games coming up with the lyrics to a song (‘I get my kicks on route 66′)… which, of course, was the classic ‘Route Sixty-Six.’ When they arrived in Los Angeles and rented a small apartment they were almost penniless. Bobby Troup set their lyrics to music, peddled it around and …

Taps (with lyrics & harmonica tabs)
Posted on August 11th, 2010 16 commentsI never realized until recently that Taps actually had lyrics. I served in the US Air Force from 1977-1981 and heard this played every single night. It is definitely a somber tune as it is also traditionally played at military funerals. I played this in two different keys (A & Bb) on a Seydel 1847 Classic & a Hohner Golden Melody. Whether you believe in war or not please always remember to honor the brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Harmonica test: Marine Band Deluxe in A
Posted on July 29th, 2010 25 commentsThis is a short review of a Hohner Marine Band Deluxe no. 2005 harmonica in the key of A. It has a sealed pear wood comb, so there are no problems with sealing. What’s more, the covers in tha back are widely open, so the harp is very loud. Moreover, covers are made form very thick steel, so you won’t squeeze it while playing. This harp is easy to play and also very durable. I have this one for about two years and it still plays like new!
