  • Route 66 Bobby Troup Cover w/Harmonica Jam w/Cutbait´s Playalong Backing Track

This song has been covered dozens of times in all music styles. It was written and originally performed by Bobby Troup, a singer and pianist. Route 66 is a famous US road that goes from Los Angeles to Chicago. There are many interesting sights and landmarks along the way, making it a popular road trip destination. Chuck Berry recorded this song in 1961. His version got the attention of The Rolling Stones, who covered it in 1964 and made it a regular part of their stage show. Rick Busciglio of Memory Lane Presentations tells us: “At a party in Hollywood in the 1970’s I was introduced to Mrs. Bobby Troup. I was very surprised with the introduction because I knew that Bobby Troup was married to a magnificent singer (and beauty) by the name of Julie London… and this lady was clearly not Julie London. First name Cynthia. This Mrs. Bobby Troup told me this tale about when she was the first wife of Troup: They were living modestly in Lancaster, Pennsylvania at the end of World War II and Bobby Troup had decided that ‘if I’m going to make it in the music business I’ve got to go to LA.’ So they drive cross country to Los Angeles and while they motor on a long boring stretch of US Route 66, they play word games coming up with the lyrics to a song (‘I get my kicks on route 66′)… which, of course, was the classic ‘Route Sixty-Six.’ When they arrived in Los Angeles and rented a small apartment they were almost penniless. Bobby Troup set their lyrics to music, peddled it around and

  • Gindick Blues Harmonica Jam Camp–3 Beginners, Band and Jon

Posted on July 11th, 2010 Ellwood 19 comments

After a two minute delay, here are three terrified and courageous beginners jamming at Jon Gindick’s Blues Harmonica Jam Camp in New Jersey 2006. Notice how everybody gets a little better as the jam goes on. Notice how fun and supportive the atmosphere is. These wonderful beginners, Mindi, Michelle and Joe, have spent the last three days studying the arts of the harp, and their “Next Level” was to achieve a single note. While they music they made that day was not braggable, we have learned that the experience of playing in stage with a band–even as a total beginner– is a musical highlight for most of us, and helps create a strong foundation for further growth. Our next Camp is Dallas, January 26,27,28 2006. Join us! 800-646-9245

I am using a Marine Band key of C harmonica, playing cross harp in the key of G. I am just a beginner but I would like comments/suggestions/tips from anyone willing to give them to me. I even make a beginner’s attempt at trying to get that bent 3draw blues note. Tough stuff. Also, I am new to tongue-blocking and I am only using the tongue-blocking method here…just thought I should note.
