Michael Peloquin – Jazz Harmonica Summit
Posted on July 22nd, 2010 9 commentsHere’s Michael Peloquin doing his electrifying rendition of this Clifford Brown tune at the 2009 West Coast Jazz Harmonica Summit. Jeff Massanari: Guitar, Sam Bevan: Bass, Bryan Bowman: Drums. After playing two absolutely gorgeous ballads on chromatic, Michael whipped out one of his trusty diatonics and blew everyone away with this number. As is typical of Michael, there’s lots of extra helpings of killer chops, tone, and soul. This is a preview of the upcoming DVD featuring eight jazz harmonica artists. The West Coast Jazz Harmonica Summit was filmed in front of a live studio audience on August 10, 2009 at the Digital Media Factory in Santa Cruz, CA, USA and was produced by harmonicist Slide Man Slim. MUSE – Man With the Harmonica + Knights of Cydonia (live at Montréal)
Posted on March 15th, 2010 1 commentMuse performing Man With the Harmonica and Knights of Cydonia (0:55) as closing songs of the Resistance Tour at Montréal Bell Centre. I got my ticket lately, so as a result, my seat really sucked. Anyway, it was worth it.
From left to right, you can see Christopher Tony Wolstenholme (bass and backing vocal), Morgan Nicholls (I guess), Dominic James Howard (drum) and Matthew Bellamy. My camera is quite cheap…I apologize. Just have to wait for the crowd to calm down to hear clearly. Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy.
I don’t own these songs. -
MUSE – Man With A Harmonica + Knights of Cydonia LIVE in Philadelphia on March 3rd 2010
Posted on March 9th, 2010 No commentsLive version of the most widely known song from MUSE. Man With a Harmonica is actually pretty awesome. Chris stands center stage and plays an awesome harmonica bit, with Matt starting up a really shiny music box and using it as a spotlight on the whole crowd. Then the guitar starts to come in, and it is unmistakeably Knights of Cydonia. Sorry for the shaky hand, but the whole building felt like it was moving! Absolutely the best concert I have ever been to, and everyone in the world should see Muse at least once in their life! Rock on boys!

Shure SM57 microphone connected into vocals processor Digitech Vocal 300 connected into Boss recording studio. Digitech Vocal 300, vocals processor: distortion, equalizer, delay Boss BR-1200CD, digital recording studio: – bass and drums backing track – chorus effects – reverb – pitch shifter effects: harmonica, pitch -12 (one octave lowered), D:E balance 60:100. D=direct. It´s the unprocessed harp sound. E=effect (pitch is shifted), in this video I lowered the pitch one octave down. So it sounds like two harmonicas, one with natural sound and the other with pitch shifted. Here D:E = 60:100 which means I let the processed sound dominate.

Gussow OMB rehearsal – “Hot Rod” (1955)
Posted on January 29th, 2010 19 commentsBack in the woodshed! Adam Gussow of Satan and Adam attempting to transform a 1955 honkin’ R&B sax instrumental by Hal Singer into a harp-and-footdrums tune. This is the music that inspired Dean Moriarty to shot “Blow! Blow!” in a San Francisco jazz joint in Jack Kerouac’s novel ON THE ROAD.
